Love that you faced your fears...I’m in my early fifties and can relate; I can feel a bubbling of possibilities at this stage in my life now as I slowly move out of a strange period of ‘empty nesting’ as both of my children moved on and away into adulthood at the same time that left me feeling a bit stranded and lost. Rediscovering me and what I’m capable of is an enjoyable mission and I’m learning to say ‘yes’ to more things...our age should definitely not be a barrier to at least try new things. Who gets to decide what is ‘age appropriate’ at our time of life...us surely!!? Keep ‘Hot Flashr’ alive in your heart!! I so wish I could roller skate...maybe I’ll put it on my to-do list 😁

I honestly feel that way about swimming, it's my way to clear my head and get some cardio in and some resistance training. I've always been an avid swimmer, it's great to get back to my element of choice!

Oh Heather! The derby was so cool! If I had known when I was there I would have done it for sure! I love the art you did! It’s so great! Also thank you for reminding me that there I can still skate at 57! Time to get on it!

I absolutely love this inspirational writing Heather! I also appreciated the connections to your creative work (wonderful painting!). As I began reading I was at a distance as skating has never been a comfortable fit (including the actual skates lol) over the years. However when you mentioned your bravery in your 50s I remembered that at the same age I began riding my bicycle to work. I felt, if not actually aggressive definitely assertive, while riding through the streets of Toronto. Now retired I recently reconnected to the joy that riding brought me. I make art dates (another inspiration from you and Julia Cameron) and ride to a location and create 'en plein air'. I toast to new adventures in our 60s!
