I'm 85 It was only last month that I realized they were talking about people in my age group as old. It came as a shock. so I made out a will and book passage on a freighter around Tahiti...At this age I can not postpone trips anymore. I just don't remember growing old...just yesterday I was 60

Women are starting to blow the doors open on aging in our culture and it's a truly wonderful thing. Sure, like many things, it's likely going to be slow going, but there is a wonderful start and you're a great example of that Heather. Women making the choice if they want to embrace their natural hair color or publicly calling people out on their attitudes about age, but mostly older people doing very cool things (like writing & reading on Substack).

I am in the middle, at 56, and my career has been in health care so I have seen people age in many different ways, as well as watched my Mom go through her later years in a way that is not appealing (grumpy & stuck). This has instilled in me a passion for vibrant aging which is one of the things I write about and teach.

This is one of the reasons I love Substack - every day I am on here I meet amazing older folks who are defying the cultural norm with their creativity and conversation. It's brilliant and so inspiring.

Just over the weekend, I performed with our small inclusive dance company. It's me, age almost 61, on stage with a group of 20something year olds. My body isn't in peak performance shape but I held my own and had a moment in the spotlight, grounding the performance with timelessness. And it felt great!

Oh dear, this is where I am. Well close at a stretch. I so appreciate your perspective and love your positive vibes. Going back to school, again, is filling me with a new resolve. Always cautious at first but I feel the shift and it’s just what I needed. I love having beautiful guides to show me how to do it! Thank you always!💜

I just turned sixty, and let my hair go grey, still debating on dying it. I'm the same age as Tom Cruise and he's jumping off of a mountain with a motorcycle, not that I'm planning on doing that but I think ageisim like many other isims are silly and outdated.

Hi Lydia and thanks for that reminder and thank goodness you won't be emulating Tom ! Ageism seems to creep in insidiously it seems just when you think it's gone away !

This resonates loudly and clearly for me! It has never been great for me to see myself in the mirror or in pictures. It’s one of the reasons why social media didn’t appeal to me...OMG! I’d have to show myself. Somehow, the magic of creating has a healing power for me like no other and it is the growth in creating that has peeled back the mirror and shown me my hidden self and that continually feeds my growth. So here’s to aging! (Glasses lifted in homage)...🥂❤️🙌🏾❤️👏🏾
