Thanks for the recommendation, Heather! And keep up the beautiful work! I, too, find more support from people I've never met than I get from family and friends. It's a sad, sad situation.

I find myself overwhelmed and helpless, daily in the face of such unbelievable atrocities. I think of the slogan "Never Again", yet here we are (not intending to make comparisons). It's heartbreaking when I think of all those very innocent beautiful once-laughing children, meeting friends and imagining their futures. Human life seems so disposable these days.

While watching some celebratory events recently (award shows, sporting events etc.) I thought, we carry on; so many people so joyful..and yet so many in the world, not. It's just not right. While working on some art today, there was a sense of it being an escape, for just awhile.

I listen to Liza Donnelly from the NYTimes on Substack. She is a. political cartoonist, and also does a good job of breaking down the news.

I admire and applaud your involvement in the Palestinian cause for Palestinian freedom.

So absolutely true. Palestinians are bringing us to our knees. It is horrifying beyond belief. The art helps me deal with all that is going on.

I do read almost all of those writers you mention. I would also recommend Chris Hedges. I will never listen to corporate media again they lie every day!

Thanks Heather for your unwavering condemnation of the Gaza sickening tragedy and now Iran. The world is filled with vile evil men right now with absolutely no regard for human life, even that of their own civilians. I have discussions of these wars/occupations with my children and it deeply saddens me to know that I had these same discussions with my parents decades ago. Nothing really changes.

You have expressed how I feel on a daily basis Heather. How can we enjoy our freedom and privilege while others have neither? By fluke of fate we were born here. How do we go through our days and be a witness to others? I don't have an answer. Writers to add to your list - Charlie Angus, Rachel Gilmore, Heather Cox Richardson.

Thank you Kate ..I guess we are just plain overwhelmed with so much horror and sorrow -and such inaction and culpability on the part of our leaders . I hope your art making helps ! Cheers! H

Hi Heather,

You know from other conversations that I'm finding this struggle difficult, distracting and draining, but that doesn't mean I've acquiesced or given up. I'm still reserving my fury and disgust, it's just I have to measure its expression to survive and protect my mental health.

I applaud your continuing production of art work, your ongoing practice. Well done!

As for losing followers because of your honesty and vocal reactions to events, I'd suggest to behave in any other way or make art that doesn't reflect your feeling is verging on dishonesty, most importantly to your core self.

So be true to your values and let others unfollow you if they can't deal with those - I'd argue you don't want them as followers if that's the case..... 🤗

Thank you so much for your supportive words Jeff. I love the way you stand up for what you believe in be it Gaza or climate change or..I also understand the need to protect one's own mental health amidst the madness of it all . It's our job as human beings and artists I believe to insure we don't lose track of what's important to say -in words or in art. Yes you are correct the unfollowers really don't matter . :-)

What's our raison d'etre, if not to determine our personal values and defend them? In my mind, we have no purpose without these.
