I’ve long been fed up with Facebook. It’s been a long drawn out decision of mine to stop posting there because it’s where I have my most followers but I got to the point where it seems such a thankless chore. I also cancelled my website some time ago, it was a relief to not have to worry about updating it all the time, especially when hardly anyone ever visited it! I think it’s a great decision of yours to hone down where you’re active online, it definitely takes the stress out of it doesn’t it?!🥰

Hi Jess and thanks for your supportive comments. I agree completely with you regarding Facebook . For me it is no longer a space where I discover content which I welcome. There is so much nonsense and posts unrelated to my art practice or world view. I too have seemingly cultivated a lot of followers (or numbers!) over the years some who I have managed to redirect to my email list ..but many are ?. There are different forces at work that interfere with it being a pleasant experience. I am a little more on the fence with Instagram -but deactivating first to experience whether or not I truly miss it . if I should return I need a new approach and to limit time spent there. it does feel good to make these intentional changes ! (and already I feel lighter ha!)

HI Heather, lovely sketches for your Palestine Art Fundraiser! I can fully understand how you feel regarding social media, my first read in the early morning with my coffee is always Substack. Reading your newsletters and others that I follow brings me joy, often provoking thoughtful introspection that I'm not able to experience on IG or Facebook.

And, your sunflowers are simply glorious!!!

Hi Lorrie ! Thanks re the sunflowers ! Although it may seem like a huge decision..I am really just removing my presence from Facebook and Instagram . (It means I am not popping in to like my friends and followers posts and to post my own updates using those platforms. ) I will however put my energies into my two newsletters here and for those subscribed will continue to receive updates, stories and hopefully a more fulsome connection with me ! Also I have a pretty robust email list attached to my website where I will convey other kinds of news and updates ..This was my intention all along as I am so hyper aware of what an addictive draw the other two platforms are for me -and I am finally at a place where I seek more authentic connection in every aspect of my life

Well now, how am I to continue checking your art? Is this the end?

Hi Michelle ..It is definitely not the end! I am just seeking a more defined and hopefully authentic presence online . if you have subscribed to this newsletter you will continue to receive posts from me as well as updates re my available art ! I will also retain my website/shop heathermurray.net and my youtube channel ;-)
