Good for you for traveling alone. I would like to give it a whirl sometime (Travel with a capital T on a plane to somewhere). I would be just like you maybe even more so with anxiousness nerves on super high alert.. but the rewards for us artists so outway the negative. Even travel in our own province can open up our Art brains to renew us and fill our well with juicy ideas to paint. And as an avid sketcher waiting for connections is never too big a deal as it is always just another opportunity to sketch!

I so agree Elaine . Even the next small town can offer a bounty of new visuals and sensory lift for the artist in us ! I must admit this trip I took advantage of those waiting times in between travel to sketch and this was quite gratifying ! (instead of clock watching and discomfort with the inevitable wait :-)

When I read your stories, I continually am shocked at how much our experiences are the same! I’m in Jamaica now and feeling the same things! The absolute plus is what art will come out of this trip! It certainly outweighs any inconvenience or mind fog! 😘

You were my very first inspiration for travel Heather! I loved hearing about your preparations before backpacking through Europe and your many stories upon your return. You describe perfectly the beautiful aspects of solitude, observation and comfort with self moving through new spaces. I look forward to returning to my travels soon. And in the meantime, I, like you, try to incorporate exploration of familiar places I find myself in. Funny enough, after coming to the island for more than 50 years, I discovered two new areas of exploration this year! Dog walks are so much fun!

Thank you Jody ! Our life and travel journeys all bring us riches don't they ..even the difficult parts . it seems the smallest travels in our neighbourhoods provide joy and inspiration when we explore and take time to notice.

Your comments always make me think! It is true that it never hurts to push yourself a little, to take a risk. And travelling alone has many pluses. Hope it was a great time!

Thank you for that feedback Sarah ! As a traveller yourself I’m sure you understand all the sensory benefits and how it may dovetail with your art. It’s sometimes easier to resist change .. movement - new experiences . I am finding I can settle into a comfy state which is wonderful too - yet I like to be aware that the occasional shift in pattern offers immense opportunity to grow
