There are birds singing ..finally a harbinger of Spring. (My Canadian side is rather weather focused..it influences how we live in these parts. )
Which helps me return to why I am here (and who I am for those of you who are new to me)
Why I am here and not there
I have migrated my blog to Substack as I have been researching and going down many rabbit holes to discover this place to be most accessible and user friendly. I am also liking the company I keep on this platform . (My website provider has most recently added extra costs to connect with my subscribers and rather than grumble and accept -I decided to search for another way to reach you !)
A bit about me (if you don’t know me by now)
I am a Canadian visual artist who has been focused on my mixed media art and paintings -which feature portraits of people from the past and at at times their fellow creatures . I am a visual story teller and my art aims to convey a story to the viewer . I am interested in how the past intersects with the present., and how we store our memories which often are quite ephemeral . I am also interested in the special relationships we have with our fur and feather friends . As some of you may know I have been selling and exhibiting my work for many years-as well as offering workshops and classes online which are now free to view on my youtube channel .
I continue to be connected to my Mixed media class group on Facebook related to these classes. I have (and continue to )revered the special artists who have connected with this forum and discussion group .
I have been exploring “what’s next” over the past two years as I have dived into new kinds of media with a special dedication to my sketchbook practise. Drawing and illustration have been sneaking into my daily artwork along with a recognition that everything I have been making is is on the map to the next creative pursuit & passion .
I live in rural Ontario with my husband and a variety of four and two footed creatures and this all has certainly has influenced my art and practise. My studio is tiny and really just a little space in a corner of my home -but it works!
My primary Substack page Ageless artist- is where I will explore the challenges and celebrations of living and working as a 50+ artist -but here I will be dedicated to providing personal updates in my art world including special offers and promotions .
I want to share with you parts of this journey as I go forward with this exploration . I also welcome feedback and robust discussion ! To work and live as a visual artist in these current times is complex, daunting and at time exhilarating .
