An excellent timely post Heather, I've been getting rid of unwanted apps (I still use IG and Pinterest for my shop) and also removing Substack accounts that no longer appeal to me. My phone, well, it has my life on it, my contacts, my appts, but I'm checking it less during the day. I don't carry it around with me, so my family gives me hell when I don't answer texts immediately, the generational divide! I've cleared off my bedroom desk so that it is now my place to fill out my short daily journal of home life/appts, my longer journal (it's not daily). My morning coffee is quiet, no phone, no computer, just me sitting and looking outside at the woods. I've also started a 30 day small pic sketching challenge which surprisingly I'm sticking to! I'm not perfect, but I am making a stronger effort this year to be more present in my daily life and the world around ME. Art - yes and yes, more creating, more visits to galleries, small and our National Gallery, life is definitely short! Creating my stuff keeps my grounded in this crazy world we live in, it's where I find solace and peace...Ok, the novella has ended :)

As a fellow female Canadian artist (hello from Vancouver Island!) so much of this feels familiar. Although as a night owl who's day starts at 11 a.m. meet scrambling to find daylight to paint in his the same but a little different haha. I will share that in my experience trying to sort out the same issues, I have discovered that my lovely brain is not device dependent for distraction. Getting rid of the phone doesn't make a difference because ultimately it's the intention of my conscience mind sorting out what I want to accomplish and then herding the mental cats who want to do all the things!
