There is often that question if god forbid there was a house fire what would you want to preserve ..Or if you went to live on a desert island what of value might you bring with you ?!
For me it is simple ..My people, my animal companions , my photos and my art .
Not the art that I make -but the art that I cherish from other artists ,.
Not for its monetary worth but for the joy it offers me every day .
Many years ago I started to engage in trading my art with other artists. If I was in a group show/event than it was a highlight to bring home art with me -to treasure forever. I also have pottery pieces, glassware and jewellery made by local artisans ..

a sculptural piece by my artist friend Susan Lindsay
I was lucky to have bequeathed to me a large watercolour of my fathers after his death. It depicted a scene from a nearby beach on a grey windswept summer. day. I was in my thirteenth year and it was a pivotal summer in my life. I was angry and resentful of my parents. This painting held meaning for me and it was a special moment in my history ; Even precious still with its nicotine stained frame.
I believe that when we collect the work of others we bring a little of who they are into our homes. Art deserves to be shared and adored.

I also feel honoured when fellow artists hang my art on their walls.
There is such a personal , warm feeling in viewing art -and conveying your appreciation by displaying it in your home. I think it’s so very important to appreciate and celebrate other artists!
AI will never hold a candle to the original work of an artist!

The art on my walls is greatly treasured. There are prints I've collected over the years and some of my own work, but the pieces I cherish the most are by my family and artist friends. I love having them at home to remind me of just what creative and talented people they are.
