This sparked some interesting memories for me. My dad was always at sea, and my mom's interest in nature was always limited to her gardening (a lot) around our house. However, my childhood friends and I would play all day in the fields and ditches next door and nearby, and we learned a lot about the plants there and the tiny creatures that lived around them. Also, I just recently recalled that saddle shoes were cool, and have been wondering if anyone sells them. With cleats would be cool, too!
Love the videos Heather! I find it a wondrous moment when I am able to see an adult friend as they were in childhood. Your lovely post reminded me of the picnics my family always took. It was an affordable way to spend a special day or night, and our picnics always had at least 4 of us children, often one or two friends but the adults always outnumbered us. Picnic parties! And for me it was being outdoors and exploring that was the memorable part. And the sardine sandwiches!! All the best with the 3 Materials Challenge! I loved your work from
Thank you for this lovely post. My childhood self was very geeky and I would draw pictures of Luke Skywalker. I guess I always leaned into fantasy art in a way. I remember taking out multiple books from the library in Wasaga beach and reading them on the beach. My choice of clothing was also a plaid shirt and Jeans. I remember riding my bike everywhere, to the beach etc, just loving the feeling of wind in my hair. Thanks for that reminder to look back.
I love your descriptions of the "little things"! I find I do this a lot, especially with nature things. I have a planter with different succulents outside my sliding door. There are a group of lizards (green anoles) that seemed to have been there for several years. I'm always on the look out for them, especially for the little ones (are they the "babies"?). I've also found, gathered and pressed these teeny flowers that come out in our yard, some are SO pretty! I also enjoy finding and collecting dead bugs. I'm an elementary teacher with a science degree - I can't help myself! You reminded me to notice the bigger stuff too!
So much inspiration here - I loved seeing your childhood outfits illustrated, inspired by Nanette....I must dig out some photos and do the same!
Appreciate that Jane ! It was fun !
Heather both your writing and artwork are outstanding and brilliant.
Thank you kindly George
